Even and Odd numbers are very important in maths. These Numbers are used in day to day life. so, it is very essential to know  about these Numbers.

 Definitions 

  • Even numbers are those numbers which are completely divisible by 2.
  • Example:  0, 2, 14, 100, 206
  • Odd numbers are those numbers which are not completely divisible by 2.
  • Example:  3, 15, 101, 207

Special Case: Zero is considered an even number.

 How to check a number that it is Even or Odd? 

Only single digit will tell that a number is Odd or Even and that digit is One's Place digit of a number.

This One's place digit is the Last digit of a number.

If the last digit(One's place) of a Number is out of 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 then Number is Even otherwise it is an Odd Number. So, An odd number ends in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9.

 Properties of Even and Odd Numbers 

1) Addition of Even and Odd Numbers

  • Even + Even = Even

    60+ 20 = 80

  • Even + Odd = Odd

    40 + 35 = 75

  • Odd + Odd = Even

    55 + 25 = 80

2) Subtraction of Even and Odd Numbers

  • Even - Even = Even

    40 - 20 = 20

  • Even - Odd = Odd

    40 - 25 = 15

  • Odd - Odd = Even

    7 - 5 = 2

3) Multiplication of Even and Odd Numbers

  • Even x Even = Even

    40 x 2 = 80

  • Even x Odd = Even

    40 x 3 = 120

  • Odd x Odd = Odd

    15 x 3 = 45
